Professional Background

Dr. Xiao is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner and Certified Wound Specialist (CWS) who earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree from the University of Maryland, Baltimore. She has over 18 years of clinical experience.

As a Certified Wound Specialist, Dr. Xiao provides Advanced Wound Care for various types of chronic, complex, and non-healing wounds, including diabetic foot ulcers, arterial leg ulcers, venous leg ulcers, pressure ulcers, and complex post-surgical wounds. She also specializes in adult Endocrinology, focusing on the management of diabetes, obesity, thyroid disorders, and metabolic health.

By addressing both the wound and the underlying conditions that may delay healing, Dr. Xiao takes a comprehensive, whole-person approach to patient care.

A Whole-Person Approach to Wound Healing

At CareMax, we believe that treating a wound is only part of the solution. A wound may fail to heal when the underlying conditions contributing to delayed or non-healing wounds are not adequately addressed. Diabetes, obesity, metabolic disorders, circulation, nutrition, pressure offloading, and other health factors can all affect the body's ability to heal.

CareMax treats the wound while also identifying and addressing the health factors that may be preventing healing. The goal is to develop an individualized treatment plan that supports healing, overall health, independence, and quality of life.

Bringing Care to Homebound & Bedbound Patients

Dr. Xiao is dedicated to improving access to specialized care for patients who are homebound or bedbound. For patients who have difficulty getting out of bed, arranging transportation, or making frequent trips to a medical office, accessing specialized care can be a significant challenge.

CareMax brings care directly to the patient's bedside and helps reduce medical costs.

Skilled Wound Care Nursing Team

Dr. Xiao leads a skilled wound care nursing team providing in-home wound care services for patients who need ongoing assistance with wound dressing changes, monitoring, and wound management.

Through clinical oversight and ongoing communication with the nursing team, Dr. Xiao helps monitor wound progress, identify when treatment adjustments may be needed, and promote continuity of care.

Our philosophy

“We don’t just treat the wound. We treat the person behind the wound.”

At CareMax, our goal is to understand the whole patient, identify what may be preventing healing, and provide coordinated, personalized care that supports optimizing healing and enhancing quality of life.

Personalized. Coordinated. Patient-Centered.

What we treat

Advanced wound care & endocrinology.

Mobile Skilled Wound Nursing Care

Our experienced wound care nurses offer dressing-change services, while Dr. Xiao provides advanced clinical oversight and evaluates wound progress and treatment needs.

Our goal is to help close the gap between bedside skilled nursing wound care and advanced clinical wound management.

Endocrinology & Metabolic Health

Dr. Xiao integrates her specialization in adult Endocrinology with a focus on conditions that can affect wound healing and metabolic health.

Services include:

  • Diabetes management
  • Obesity management
  • Thyroid disorders

GLP-1 Treatment

GLP-1 medications may be available as part of a personalized medical weight, metabolism, or diabetes management program for eligible patients.

CareMax provides individualized evaluation and ongoing clinical management for patients considering GLP-1 therapy for diabetes, obesity, and metabolic health. Treatment decisions are based on each patient's medical history, health conditions, treatment goals, and clinical eligibility. A medical evaluation is required to determine whether treatment is appropriate and safe.

Connecting the Pieces

At CareMax, we recognize that wound healing and metabolic health are often closely connected. Conditions such as diabetes and obesity can contribute to delayed or impaired wound healing. By addressing both the wound and the underlying health conditions, CareMax takes a whole-person approach to care.
